early lifeSylvia Plath was very intelligent as a child, but had a bit of a tough life growing up. Having her father, Otto Plath, pass away due to complications after the amputation of his foot due to untreated diabetes crushed her faith deeply. His death for her was even worse because he passed just a week after her eighth birthday. After that Plath began to have mixed feelings about her faith and wanted to give up on everything. Once she visited her fathers grave a little while after his death, she made her father her motivation to continue writing again.
